5 Ways To Leverage Your Book & Catapult Your Business
If I were to start my business all over again I’d write and publish books sooner. Books are one of the best marketing tools any coach, consultant or creative entrepreneur can have to generate leads and convert them into sales.
Even though a book can be used as a multi-purpose marketing tool to generate income, there’s one thing you need to know first. There’s an essential ingredient that divides the authors who make a sh*t ton of money and those who don’t.
The #1 key difference between making money with your book or wasting your time is clearly defining a back-end sales funnel. That means if you want to write a book for your business you must have other services or products to on-sell at the back-end.
Make no mistake, the number of books you sell will not determine how much money you can make in your business. Your book is a gateway. It’s the first step a potential client makes in hiring you before they’ve met you.
You need a solid promotional strategy so your book gets into the hands of the right people. Then you can leverage your book and create multiple income streams to really boost your profits. Let’s talk about how you can leverage your book to boost your income.
5 Ways You Can Leverage Income From Your Book
Think about it. People are searching for solutions on Amazon and there pops your name. First of all, they check you out and read your bio. They buy the book and realize you’re the person who can help them but they want to engage with you. They need more than words on paper.
So, when they check out your website and see what you’re all about, you want to have something you can offer them apart from your book. Offering consultations is an easy transition for a browser to become a buyer. It’s an affordable option for the client and you’re going to make least 10x more for that consultation than you’re charging for the book.
Offering consultations is a win/win. Your client gets to work more closely with you and get the extra help and attention they need. And for you, well, you get to help someone and really understand what else they’re struggling with. This new understanding allows you to extend your current services or write another book to solve common issues that come up in the consultation sessions.
2. Mastermind Groups & Subscriptions
Mastermind groups are a lucrative service. When people read your book they understand how you can help them but they need ongoing support to get them to the solution side of the problem. They’re looking for like-minded people they can brainstorm with and share their wins and losses.
The good news is, it doesn’t necessarily need to be you who needs to be solving all the problems or bringing the content ideas to the mastermind group. Your job here is to attract the right people in your mastermind group who can contribute to the group.
3. Online Programs
When someone has read your book and they like what you do, they’ll be more interested to learn how else you can help them out. They may be more of a do-it-yourself kind of person but they love your style.
If you offer online programs and home study courses, it’s the next natural step for them to engage with you at an affordable price point. If your book is structured correctly you should be able to create a program for each chapter in your book.
Online programs can take a subject and go deeper. So rather than adding new content to create a program, it’s more about giving the content context, adding more examples, case studies, and illustrations. You want to create the program so people can action it through worksheets, workbooks, and interaction with other people in the online program.
Depending on how you set up your online program you can charge a range of prices. For example, video content has a higher perceived value than PDFs or audio content. When it comes to creating a program consider how you can offer the program the easiest and most efficient way and be able to charge what you’re worth too.
4. Speaking Gigs
Speaking gigs are a game changer. Imagine speaking to a room full of people hanging on every word you say. Speaking at live events boosts your credibility and extends your reach. You can create a connection with the audience and it will boost your overall confidence and self-esteem too. We can all do with a little extra confidence, am I right?!
When you speak from the stage you can seed your services and programs throughout your talk and make offers from the stage. This marketing strategy has seen a business grow into 6 figures plus in one speaking gig.
It’s highly likely that when you’re speaking at an event that you’ll get invitations to speak at other events too. You never know who will be in the audience so make sure you let them know you’re available to speak at other events too.
5. Live Events & Retreats
People love to connect and be around like-minded people. Offering live events and retreats allows for people to have a different interaction with you and with other people who have come together for the same reasons.
Many people say they’ve made lasting friendships and associations from people they’ve met at retreats and live events. Your live event or retreat should be structured around the framework of your book, it’s not about offering a random topic for your retreat or event.
Everything you create and offer to your people should have a certain flow that allows your clients or audience to interact with you at different price points and different levels of access to you. Retreats are more about the experience than having a schedule of intensive content.
You want to create a beautiful, transformative environment that allows for growth. Don’t make the mistake of cramming in as much as you can for your people because it takes away from the experience.
You can see for yourself, choosing to write a book is a no-brainer if you want to rise above your competition and catapult your business success. Just remember it’s essential to have products and services to sell to your readers if you want to boost your income.
Once your audience get to know you and what you have to offer, they’ll want more. And this, my friend, is how you grow your business by writing and publishing a book.
